Institute of Beauty Artistry was founded by Beatriz Hernandez, aka Mrs. BETTY in November of 2011. Mrs. Betty has 30+ years of experience as a Master Nail Artist, salon owner and Nail Artistry Instructor. Mrs. Betty refers to Nail Technology as Artistry, because to her, Beauty is an ART, and being a nail artist is her passion. “I don’t have blood in my veins, I have nail polish and monomer” she says.
Mrs. Betty, born and raced in the Puerto Rico, started doing nails when she was 17 years old, right out of high school as something to do until she decided what the college plan was. The college plan change to be a technical career that will change her life forever.
In 1996, she decided to move to United States, and with her, she brings $280.00, one luggage full of clothes and another luggage full of nail products and an unstoppable dreams and desire to be an entrepreneur and open a Nail Salon.
She started working immediately in factory jobs; on the side, she started doing nails door to door, carrying with her, her months old baby boy, including diaper bag and car seat, plus that one luggage full of nail stuff, and everything else needed to do nails to anyone who gave her the chance so she could make some extra money to support her child.

Soon after moving, Mrs. Betty shines again by opening the 1st nail salon in the Upstate own by a Hispanic woman and then in 2011 is when she shines brighter than ever, opening IBA, the 1st Beauty School in South Carolina owned by a Hispanic woman and the only school statewide teaching in both English and Spanish, and opening endless opportunities to students.
Mrs. Betty, founder and director of IBA is not only an entrepreneur; she is also a leader, a mentor and a coach. One of her purposes in life is to empower woman, and she enjoys “polishing rough diamonds, helping them grow, not only as a professional, but as a individuals; I work on their self-esteem, their fears and insecurities; they learn how to talk and treat people, I teach them the important value of customer service and satisfaction, and when they graduate, start working and start making good money, they feel so accomplish that I can see them shinning with their own glow, is magical” as she said.
“when my students call me from the state board location parking lot, after they finish and say to me, “oh my God Mrs. Betty, I love you so much, thank you, thank you for teaching me so much, I’m so blessed to have you and call you my teacher. I was the most prepare person in that room” and then, when they come to see me holding their license and hug me and say THANK YOU SO MUCH” “that’s when I feel that I have accomplished my purpose with every one of my students”
“I KNOW I MAY NOT HAVE THE BEST SCHOOL, BUT WHAT MAKE MY SCHOOL SPECIAL IS THE LOVE AND DEDICATION TO OUR STUDENTS”
Since 2011 we have been preparing students to change their life and start an amazing career in the beauty industry. We fully prepared for not only their State Licensing Exams but fully prepared for their future career as a Cosmetologist, Nail Technician or Esthetician. We cover one of the most important factors of the beauty industry, CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. Almost anyone can provide customer service; but customer satisfaction is the highest level of a service. We’ll train you on how to deal with the day by day beauty business situations as well as how to fix those minor problems before they become bigger. Mrs. Betty also prepare you with her very own strategy to build clientele fast enough that in a year or less you can have sufficient clientele to easily open your own salon.
IBA is 100% diverse, all our instructors are fully bilingual in English and Spanish, and we have students with many different cultures and from all over the world. Once every few months we do “MY COUNTRY DAY” and we all bring a traditional dish from our country to share with each other, and it’s simply amazing to see all the nations together from all different places in United States, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Panama, Dominican Republic, Belize, Peru, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Cuba, Honduras, Nicaragua, Slovakia, India, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos and Russia. This diversity helps to create a very interesting, unique and educational environment as we can teach hands-on about the many different types of hair, skin, and nails that each student will encounter when they become a professional in the industry.
Institute of Beauty Artistry has the biggest advertisement, word of mouth. Our clinic clients, former students, including their friends and family members, salon owners & managers, sales representatives, and every person that visit IBA leave fascinated by the atmosphere and is instantly when they get a bunch of business cards to share them with everyone they know.
